Another Reason to Brisk It! (Exciting TCEA Updates)

After my presentation this morning concluded, I looked to see what else I had put on my schedule that I considered a do-not-miss. The first item on the docket was a session about using Brisk Teaching in your classroom. While I had seen and participated in several webinars on Brisk virtually, I knew I wanted to see the amazing Suvi work her magic live! While I am no novice to Brisk, I was excited to dive into a feature for the first time, and learn about some release updates that are on the horizon!

If you're not familiar, Brisk is the AI teaching assistant that works as fast as its name suggests! Brisk isn’t here to replace you—no way! You're the mastermind in the classroom. Brisk is just here to make your life easier by generating lesson ideas, simplifying grading, and even suggesting ways to make learning more fun. Think of it as your always-available, never-tired, digital co-teacher—minus the coffee breaks.

Whether you're crafting the perfect worksheet, brainstorming discussion questions, or looking for creative ways to reach every student, Brisk is ready to jump in. So, why not let Brisk handle the busy work while you focus on what you do best—teaching with passion?

First, I'm in love with the brisk boost feature!

I'm not sure why I hadn't played with Boost before; maybe it was released when I was focusing on developing my new units, and it just fell off of my radar. Regardless, it is 100% amazeballs!

Boost, just like the main Brisk Teaching resources, leverages AI to create an interactive student-facing activity. Instead of creating a doc or slides or a Google Form, it creates an interactive space that checks for understanding from virtually any source. During the session, Suvi demoed Boost using a Crash Course Biology video, and while it was challenging to engage in the discussion without watching the video (as it should be), it probed for a deep understanding of what makes something a living organism. I instantly wanted to slap my forehead for not taking the easy route of leveraging Boost. Instead, I clunkily app smashed things together to create something similar.

I decided to set something up on my own to play with the speed of creation and see the dashboard to interact with on my device, and it was seamless. This is easily a new tool in my toolbox for checking for understanding on reading assignments and other engagement tasks with my AVID students, critiquing or analyzing a design in my media courses, or interacting with primary sources in my Social Studies classes. Just like Brisk Teaching, the boost feature is a LIFESAVER!

NEW RELEASES!!!!!

As we reached the final moments of the presentation, Suvi shared two sets of updates that are on the horizon for the Brisk Teaching extension.

  1. Create Anything

If there is something from the mountain of options that already exists in the extension that you want to create...on either Monday or Tuesday, Brisk Teaching is releasing the "create anything" option.

One of the examples that came up in. the Q and A session about this feature was if I wanted to pull a vocabulary list to leverage some reading strategies, I could do it in seconds. I can push create anything, then select a doc. Once I've done so, I can then instruct the engine how I want it to create my vocab list and boom, I've got a vocab list to break down in seconds!

  1. Writing Coach

Brisk is already an amazing tool in helping quickly offer feedback on student writing assignments based on a rubric etc. uploaded by the teacher. It has really helped me give quick feedback to students, and then offer some deeper and more nuanced feedback as I have the time to dig in deep. However, the upcoming writing coach feature seeks to leverage real-time feedback on a prescripted writing prompt.

While there was not a given timeline for this update, the room was excited, especially all of the Texas folks who are concerned about the upcoming STAR assessments they worry about. Many felt this would help get kids ready and confident to write before the assessment day!

At the end of the day, it was exciting to see these new features and to play with a feature I had neglected. This is yet another one of the many reasons I'll never risk it, just Brisk it!
